Dart Light Fighter 3.0

We are revisiting the Classic Space version of the Dart Light Space Fighter which was originally posted in November 2018. When I initially posted the Classic Space color scheme version, I failed to account for all those little yellow exclamation marks next to many of the parts in the Studio 2.0 model. For those of you who don’t know, they signal when the part you are using in the model is not available in that color. Who knew?

This is version 2.0 with the Classic Space livery. Note the windscreen canopy and the under wing smooth bore engines. Both had to be replaced with parts available in the appropriate colors, trans-yellow and light-blue-grey, respectively.

If you recall, this little space fighter was initially built when I noticed I had a bunch of black parts that would lend themselves to a spaceship. Then, as part of me teaching myself how to use Studio 2.0, I rebuilt the model digitally. After trying to post the digital model in a Facebook Classic Space Group and being rejected because they didn’t consider the Blacktron-esque color scheme to be Classic Spacey enough for their group, I recreated the model using classic blue/grey and trans-yellow parts. It turns out I was quite pleased with the design and wanted to get the parts to add a real version to the Belmont Bricks collection.

The original Blacktron-esque space fighter.

That was all well and good until I tried to order the parts I needed at Bricklink. Turns out there were a few pieces not available in the colors I needed – most prominently the trans-yellow canopy. After trying several other color options for the canopy – trans-blue and trans-black just didn’t cut it with the rest of the model – I began searching for a trans-yellow canopy I could substitute. When I finally found one which worked, it caused a few other changes to accommodate the new size.

Dart Light Space Fighter 3.0 – created with parts that actually exist.

So here we are. Slightly different, but continues the general theme I had originally developed. I am continuing to get the necessary parts from Bricklink and hopefully will have a fully built “real-life” version in the very near future. I may even add a Pink Spaceman pilot once Benny’s Space Squad finally shows up.

So what do you think of the 3.0 version?
