Tower Plaza – adding repetitive randomness

Continuing on with my Tower Plaza build, I had to address one of the issues lurking in the back of my mind since I completed the initial design in Studio.  With both of the buildings in this model being variations of my Skinny MOD theme (8 – brick wide structures), neither were intended to have much interior detail.  That’s fine for the low rise masonry building.  Not so much with the tower.

The tower design mimics a curtain-wall structure, with extensive glazing.  The problem is you can see right through it… all the way up.  I don’t have the patience, band-width or budget to design little interiors for each floor, yet it left me feeling like it was a design detail which had been omitted. To me it was a omission which lessened the overall impact of the design.

I started to play with some ideas about a solid 2 x 16 wall for each floor which would help block the view through the building. I wanted something which added a pattern, but also a consistency of pattern.  After a trying out a couple of designs I settled on one dominated by white 2x bricks, with various red, yellow and blue bricks for accents. The result – pure Lego awesomeness  – adding some whimsy, color and random patterning to this tower.

I built 6 identical walls and plan of rotating each of them 180 degrees each story. The pattern will be repeating but will also give a sense of randomness. The lobby level won’t have an interior wall but does have a tile pattern floor.

So what do you think?  A little primary color within the black and glass tower? I am very curious how the entire tower looks with the walls in place. Unfortunately, I am waiting on a few final 8X plates before I can complete the top levels (as well as about a dozen 4 x 8 dark orange plates I could only find in Austria, go figure.)

Stay tuned.  Build on.
